Parenting Tips
Parenting is often described as being the most difficult job in the world and as with any job, you'll need to
learn a whole new set of skills. Most importantly, you'll have to master these parental skills quickly and get
things right, or pretty close to right, first time. In parenting, there are generally four styles that experts
discuss. They have different names but they are generally called the authoritarian, permissive or indulgent,
authoritative and uninvolved styles of parents.
The first style of parents is that of the authoritarian parent, these parents are like army commanders.
Authoritative parenting parents prefer to issue commands and orders to their children and fully expect their
children to carry out their orders without questioning them. They do not welcome nor appreciate any feedback from
their children; they live by set and defined rules in a structured environment when parenting teens.
Parenting
The permissive parents are often seen as those who are overly lenient and they do not set limits for their
children. This type of parents often results in children who do not respect authority and are often incapable to
make their own choices. As the child grows and becomes a teenager, they tend to be disrespectful and the parents
have little control over them.
Another parent style is that of the authoritative parenting. Authoritative parenting is both demanding and
responsive at the same time. While expecting their children to behave in a certain manner, authoritative parents
don't impose their authority and welcome a certain amount of questioning. Parents demonstrate a combination of
assertiveness coupled with the ability to respond to their children's feedback.
Uninvolved type of parents often display low love and low limits, they do not seem to care as to what their
children are doing and they also do not show their children affection. This style of
parenting can easily lead to child behavioral problems from a very young age because the
child will soon begin to fight for attention.
There are some basic rules when it comes to parenting teenagers. These are the importance of proper
communication, being a good role model, and being kind to your children. Keeping lines of communication open is
very essential in parenting. Real model parenting means being a parent model, living the way you want your children
to live. A child must be able to come and share his or her troubles and problems with their parents without
hesitation. You should not do anything to your child that you wouldn't want your child to do to you; there are far
better ways for you to handle conflict, stress and common misbehaviors.
Moreover, television and computers often play a big role in the lives of even very young children nowadays.
Considering that computers will give them a head start in their education, many parents are keen to have their
young children using them as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the Internet has many dangers; there are many wholly
inappropriate websites for young children. So as part of parental controls, consider the vast array of parental
controls technology that is available to help parents control their young child's computer use and television
viewing.
Parenting is not about providing well, giving pocket money, or satisfying the material needs of your children.
It is about creating love, understanding, trust and bonds that will last a lifetime of good times and bad.
